Innovation Incubator 4.0
The Innovation 4.0 Incubator is aimed at scientists who would like to commercialize their scientific and research achievements. It makes it possible to obtain co-financing to carry out pre-implementation work, including additional laboratory tests or adaptation of a solution to the expectations of a buyer interested in it. The maximum co-financing for a single project can reach PLN 100 000.
The project is accompanied by the Competition for Grants of the University of Gdansk. Funding will go to authors of works with the highest commercialization potential and readiness for implementation.
The project is carried out in a consortium:

Amount of funding for the entire Consortium:
PLN 2,823,900.00
Amount of funding for UG:
PLN 1,358,900.00, of which PLN 1,223,000.00 is grant funding and PLN 135,900.00 own contribution
Programme objectives:
The main objective of the programme is to support the process of transfer, implementation and commercialization of the results of scientific research and development works. Thanks to the funding obtained, project authors can increase their technological readiness (according to the TRL scale) and carry out the necessary pre-implementation work.
In addition, the programme is intended to help promote scientific achievements, increase their impact on the development of innovation and foster cooperation between the scientific community and the economic environment.
Key activities:
● initiating and strengthening cooperation between the scientific community and the economic environment,
● preparation of projects for commercialization of the results of scientific research and development works,
● analyzing the results of scientific research or development work in terms of their practical usefulness,
● analyzing market needs in the context of selecting research topics,
● maintaining a database of research projects in progress,
● analyzing the possibility of obtaining patent protection,
● conducting pre-implementation work,
● support from innovation brokers.

Starbios 2
STARBIOS 2 Structural Transformation to Attain Responsible BIOSciences is an international project carried out jointly by 12 universities from Europe, the USA and Brazil. On behalf of the University of Gdansk, the Inter-University Faculty of Biotechnology UG and GUMed and the UG Technology Transfer Office participated.
The project was developed since 2016 with funding from Horizon 2020 and includes research institutions that conduct research in the biological sciences, chemical sciences and biotechnology. These centers want to further advance the idea of responsible research and innovation – and with STARBIOS they gain the opportunity to develop individual action plans and make the structural changes needed.
Intterreg Baltic Sea Region
The European ALLIANCE project, financed by the INTERREG BSR programme, focused on the development of so-called blue biotechnology. It was jointly implemented by research institutions, laboratories, technology parks and companies from 10 countries: Germany, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Portugal, the UK and Poland.
Since 2016, the University of Gdansk has also gained partner status in the project – on behalf of the university, the participants are: Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, Interuniversity Faculty of Biotechnology UG and GUMed, Gdansk Centre for Biological Resources and Technology Transfer Office.
Cooperation within ALLIANCE fosters the exchange of experience. It provides easier access to the highly specialized knowledge, infrastructure and services that are proving crucial in the development of innovative products based on marine resources.
Innovation Incubator 4.0
Since 2017, the CTT UG team has been implementing the Innovation Incubator+ project (an interdepartmental project of the Minister of Science and Higher Education within the framework of the non-competition measure “Support for the management of scientific research and commercialisation of the results of R&D works in scientific units and enterprises”, implemented as part of the Operational Programme Intelligent Development 2014-2020 Measure 4.4).
The budget of the programme of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education totalled PLN 50 million, and PLN 3,750,000 from this pool went to a consortium of Tricity universities: University of Gdansk, Gdansk University of Technology, Gdansk Medical University and the PG Excento Sp. z o.o. special purpose vehicle.
Funds from the project will be allocated mainly to pre-implementation work in the field of scientific research and research and development. Among other things, this work will include additional laboratory tests to bring the results of scientific research and R&D work closer to commercialisation, as well as analyses and reports. In particular, the market potential of inventions will be monitored and their readiness for implementation will be analysed. Valuations of industrial property rights necessary for the development of commercialisation projects will also be carried out.
