UG Technology Transfer Office - what do we do?

The worlds of science and business are indispensable to each other, and together they can achieve spectacular goals! The Technology Transfer Office of the University of Gdansk, as an all-university unit, was created precisely to build relations between these two environments. Thanks to our academic roots and many years of experience in commercialization, we understand the needs and challenges of both scientists and entrepreneurs or representatives of institutions.

Researchers from the University of Gdansk establish cooperation with us to efficiently patent inventions or research results and successfully market them. We can join a project even at the conceptual stage and help teams to direct their activities accordingly, increasing the chances of their subsequent commercialization.

We provide support in every area and at every stage – from analyzing whether an invention has commercial potential, through the assistance of a patent attorney in the application process, to support in marketisation, including – attracting an investor. We offer assistance in the protection of intellectual property rights and support researchers applying for funding under government programmes.

We offer entrepreneurs a comprehensive implementation of commissioned research, thanks to which they can increase the value and prestige of their offer and better adjust it to the needs of the market. Through us, commercial entities establish cooperation with world-class specialists from the University of Gdansk and benefit from the possibilities of the university’s technological base – including modern equipped laboratories. Important tasks of the TTO also include evaluation of the University’s research potential for entrepreneurs and meetings with business representatives linked to the promotion of the UG’s technological offer.

Representatives of the institutions are provided with substantive support in the implementation of projects and undertakings. We provide them with assistance in conducting the necessary analyses and research. We enable them to obtain reliable, credible information and proposals for solutions, developed by scientific authorities.

VISION

At the UG Technology Transfer Office, we believe that real cooperation between the scientific and business communities can improve the world, improve industry and raise the quality of people’s lives.

What mission does the UG TTO want to fulfil?

The mission of the Technology Transfer Office  is to support inventors – so that they can develop their ideas and protect their intellectual property – as well as to shape conditions for effective cooperation between entrepreneurs and institutions and the world of science.

We realize this idea by carrying out wide-ranging activities: services, information, counselling and training for employees of the University of Gdansk (for more information: Commercialization UG). We actively participate in the promotion of the achievements of scientific teams, as well as the University – as a center where research with high commercial potential is conducted.

We take a multifaceted view of technology transfer, which is why we have implemented the ISO 26000 International Standard (containing guidelines on social responsibility, i.e. the responsibility of an organization for the impact of its decisions and actions on society and the environment) at TTO UG. As a member of PACCT (the Agreement of Academic Technology Transfer Centres), we cooperate with other research centers in Poland, sharing experience and co-creating standards and good practices.
