Highly active oxovanadium(IV) precatalyst for sorptive polymer synthesis

The invention relates to a novel oxovanadium(IV) coordination compound containing acetylacetonate and 3 phenylpyridine ligands and to a simple one step synthesis method. The compound acts as a highly active precatalyst in ethylene polymerization, ethylene and 1 octene copolymerization and oligomerization of selected polar monomers.

The resulting polymeric materials exhibit developed structure and gas sorption properties including carbon dioxide.    The oxovanadium based system offers an efficient non metallocene alternative combining high catalytic activity with simple preparation and low cost precursors.

Application:

  • Synthesis of polymers and copolymers with sorption properties,
  • Production of polyethylene based sorptive materials,
  • Oligomerization of polar monomers to functional materials.
